Anyway, to get a nice 3BD apartment then try not to get less than 8,500QR accomodation allowence.
If you are looking for a villa then ask for 13,000QR.

Furnished apartment with a ...Furnished apartment with a sea view is very expensive, it could reach to 14,000 and even more.
It is a good allowence really if you want to get a nice apartment and you might save some of it.

Safwany ... i guess u know how much Beverly Hills cost now. My son school is in DESS, so i guess when i move i need to move somewhere around that area. At the moment i am commuting in the traffic daily from Muntaza traffic light to the school.
Got alot of girlfriend who looking around for a house. Everytime they call for the agent they will asked where your hubby working for? Bachtel, Maersk, Halliburton or something like that. Then they know how much your allowance would be. If your hubby working in small company, they dont bother to respond to your query.

Some agents are worse than the greedy landlords, it is better not to tell them where their hubbys work so they can get a response, or you can tell them to contact me if you want :)
By the way, I may have something very nice in this area but it is not cheap, what is your budget ?

some ppl said that after the games the housing should come down in the price. Do u think it would be ever happen? Mind you companies like Qatar Gas, Exxon and Bachtel still keep relocating the new staff coming into the country. And also project like The Pearl will need lots of houseing for their staffs too.

You are right, there are many of multinatioanl companies still relocating their staff and for that I don't think that the housing will come down, maybe there will be some drop immediatly after the Asian Games but I don't think it will last for long time.

It is very hard now to find a 4BD apartment in Qatar especially in the new buildings as they all 2 or 3BD, you will be lucky if you find a 4BD and I think your budget is enough, in other hand it will be better for you to increase your budget and get a villa cause it will be easier to find a 4BD one.
About the cars, I don't recommend the Nissan Murano, you better get Pathfinder or Patrol or even Armada wish is so cool if you can afford.

A 3BD apt could cost about 7500QR and even more.
I don't recommend the Murano cause I have two friends who own one and they didn't like it much, you wont hear that about the other models of Nissan.
About the schools I have no ideas about it as I am still single with no kids :)

I have been reading all of your responses and you are very helpful. I am hoping you may have a few suggestions for me.
It looks like we will have to move out of our large 3 bedroom villa with Corniche views-that we only pay 5000 QR for. Government wants the land for a park apparently. My husband now works in Al Wakrah, so we would definitely consider moving there if it means paying only a little bit more than we are paying now and so we can still keep the same standard of living.
Do you cover the Al Wakrah area or know of someone who does? We haven't been given official notice to move, but the rumour is we will receive it in April with 2 months notice to leave.

Don ...Do QP not put you initially into temporary fully furnished accommodation? Somewhere like the Qatar Navigation compound?
That would allow you to settle in and have a good look round before deciding on a permanent home.
I personally think it unlikely that rents will drop after the games as DAGOC are not the main cause of the housing shortage.

Don ...It really depends on what you are hoping for. I am in a 3 bedroom apartment, the rent is 9,000. We looked at quite feel places and this was the only apt. that I would take. The rest left a lot to be desired!
Like everyone has said, the prices have gone up quite a bit. However, since we are moving in a company house today I really haven't been paying close attention to the rent.
You would for sure be able to rent a spacious apt. with the allowance you will be recieving.

depends where and what ...depends where and what standard you are looking for. plan in the region of 7.5k - 10.5k and you have most bases covered.
we just tried to move and the standard of 2 bed accomodation available at the 9-10k level was very dissapointing.

I do not think 10,000QR is a ...I do not think 10,000QR is a good allowance for a "lovely" 3 bed apartment in Doha. You might be lucky to get an apartment in the city for that but you will have to fight your way through all the indians to get to it!

I can accept buying where some equity is retained but renting at these prices Im sorry is just sheer ignorance and gullability.
