Whenever we encounter a stressful event, our bodies undergo a series of hormonal and biochemical changes that put as in ‘alarm mode.’ Our heart rate increases, adrenaline rushes through our blood stream, and our digestive and immune systems temporarily shut down. If the stressors continue and we stay on high alert for a prolonged period of time, we experience exhaustion and burn out.

None of us can avoid stress, but we can return to a state of balance and regulation through a variety of means, including deep breathing, meditation, yoga, and exercise...These activities provide calming and relaxing sensory input for stress relief and can be selected according to lifestyle and preference. When you meditate you bring together all of the mind’s energies and focus them on a word, a sound, a symbol, a comforting image, or your own breathing.

The optimal setting for meditation is a quiet, clean place. People typically meditate sitting on the floor or in a chair with their eyes closed.A variation of traditional meditation involves guided imagery or visualization. If you use this method, you’ll imagine a scene in which you feel at peace, able to let go of all concerns and tensions. In guided imagery, audio instructions help you visualize the scene, focus your thoughts and relax. You don’t have to be seated or still to meditate.

In walking meditation, mindfulness involves being focused on the physicality of each step — the sensation of your feet touching the ground, the rhythm of your breath while moving, feeling the wind against your face....

5 Ways to keep cholesterol in check

1. Take psyllium
The first, and one of the simplest tips, is to get more fiber in your diet - but not just any kind, because not all fibers work the same way. Viscous soluble fiber like psyllium fiber, the natural dietary fiber found in Metamucil, is proven to help lower total and "lousy" LDL cholesterol because it forms a thick gel that traps and helps remove some cholesterol, bile acids and waste in the gut. This is why I recommend my patients supplement low fat, low cholesterol diets with 7 grams of soluble fiber from psyllium daily, as in Metamucil.

2. Wear a pedometer and increase daily activity

Become a Childbirth Educator

Thought I would share...
There will be a Childbirth Educator Workshop in Doha the 18-19 of March. This workshop is the first step in the certification process for the International Childbirth Educator Association, based in the USA. The presenter is coming from the States. See the icea.org website for more details.
Might be a great chance for some ladies to have a "work from home" kind of job and it would be good knowledge for anyone teaching pre-natal excercise classes :)

Want a Flat Tummy : follow it

Here are a set of workout and physical activities, which when combined with an ideal eating plan and cardio workouts can assure you of the killer abs that you always dreamt of...

1. Naukasana- A common yoga posture that works wonders on your abs.
Method: Lie flat on the ground, with your back on the floor. Raise your upper body and legs to an angle of 30 degrees and hold the posture for 30-40 seconds, then relax. Repeat this asana for 10 times to begin with, graduating to 30 times. Breathe normally all through the work out.
“Holding onto the posture tightens and contracts your upper and lower abs while repeating the movement tones them up,” tells yoga expert Usha Chegappa of Bharat Thankur’s Artistic Yoga.

2. Ushtrasana : It is the counter pose to naukasana .

I would to share a story with you all...which I read long time back but still I remember the moral of the story and I learned a lesson from it.
This story is about an old man who had 4 sons. He wanted his sons to learn & experience and He never wanted them to judge the things too quickly.....so he sent them all on a quest...but he didnt sent them together but Turn by Turn...he advised them to go to a faaaaar away land and search for a PEAR tree.
This PEAR tree was a great distance away and each one of them had to go there in the allocated season.

simple ways to be happier in 2010

"Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking." ~ Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
With Marcus Aurelius Antoninus' quote in mind, I invite you to explore these 15 Simple Ways to create happiness in 2010!

1.Never forget to remember ur GOD.

2. Be your own BFF (best friend forever). Enjoy your own company. Embrace everything about you! Without a doubt, it's the most important step towards being a happy person.

Winter Exercise Tips

Just because it is cold outside doesn't make it open season for an excuse not to exercise. There are multiple exercise options one can choose to participate in regardless of what the outdoor thermometer reads. Depending on your location and likes, you can choose to workout inside or outside.

All that is required for Winter-time workouts is some planning and employing all safety precautions. If you prefer to workout outside, keep the following tips in mind.

>> Get warm first:
A proper warm-up is critical. Cold temperatures can make your muscles tight and therefore they are more prone to injuries. So, it's important to get them warmed-up prior to engaging in intense physical activity.
