Fotball in Qatar

JBH's picture

I want to find things to do with my family when I get there.

What is it like for families going to football matches in Qatar?

Can we all go together?

Will we be seperated?

What is it like really?

You can go with your family but the matches that are "family" events are few and far between.

Families don't go to the local games. Some of the foreign players' families are occasionally seen but nothing in terms of supporters.

The last match that was truly a family event was when Qatar played Argentina a couple of years ago. That was fun.

You can, of course, it's not segregated. I love football but I've never taken my family except to the Argentina match. The atmosphere doesn't seem right.

And you can get into the league thing which increases the interest.

Is it expensive?

it is 10QR to get in.
I don't agree I think it is a nice family atmosphere. Qatari men take there children along. Your wife will have no issues what so ever attending.
The atmosphere seems fine...
often like the marie celeste at the stadiums... very peaceful watching football but for the Qatar Bahrain match last week Al Sadd stadium was 75% full and buzzing.
The Asian Games footie matches were great to watch too.
Top of the league is Al Sadd and the 2nd club Gharaffa are a good team to watch too.
Al Sadd is the most professionally organised club having patronage from Sheikh Tamin - the Emir's son.
Some of the matches can be dire and some really good... you take the rough with the smoothe

Football matches are fun. And let me clarify that football is not everything in the country. there are tonnes of other things to do. I would like to put up a weeklty schedule of all sports activities happening in Qatar. In the profession i am in, its easy to get that organised.

Hopefully, when i put up the schedule of ALL SPORTS ACTIVITIES in Qatar in a week along with the venue and time, it would be of some use to someone.

Just watch out for it!

Good on you greeker... but its is dreadful trying to get schedule confirmation...

I have seen football schedules change 3 times in one week...for a match in a couple of days time
it must drive the managers and coaches mad!!

But yes there is loads of stuff - just lacking is a centralised website with the different sports and the teams line ups.

Do not fear. I will keep them updated. Like i said, in my profession, its just a matter of posting the up, and you can be sure that you will have accurate timings of everything. I will start posting from today onwwards, as a seperate thread maybe. Thanks for your feedback anyway.

greeker.greeker/-a-t-/gmail.com is the place to send them mails to!
