Living victims of the Villaggio fire

Xena's picture

With all due respect to those who lost their loved ones!

Does anyone know what has happened to the survivors of the fire?

We haven't heard anything about them. How many survived? Have they been released from hospital? Did anyone else surcome to their injuries that we haven't heard about...

Even with everything be investigated, we are still hearing very little...

with respect to the firfighters who lost their lives, I am wondering why regular fire control inspections were not carried out on the mall by the fire service; common practice in the UK, if we are to believe the sprinklers were not fully functional and the fire alarm was inadequate surely this would have been picked up in regular yearly or half yearly inspections... such a tragic waste of life may have been prevented...

Elegance said I was talking to my cousin ...

I was talking to my cousin about arranging my most important documents like Passport and bank documents in one place, rather than in different files and drawers, in case something like a fire or earthquake happens. She and my hubby were giving me a strange look and asked me "Why do you think of all this?"
Am I pessimistic? Or organised and farsighted?Villagio incident teaches me that there is no harm in thinking of the "unthinkables".
In HIS time we will all go. When He calls, there is no waiting.. ..But we should be judicious with options available for making life safer..

it is a very safe preventive mesure. the bag should be as close to the main entrance/exit as possible so u can just grab it and flee.
but my bag doesn't include passport or money (since it is accessible to any visitor, and may be stolen:
it's a SURVIVAL KIT with clothes, radio and batteries, matches, band aid, multipurpose swiss nife, compass, and caned food and water that i regularly eat and replace for expiry date, whistle, signal mirror, flashlight with laser pointer, and a red cloth for easy detection.

no, i'm not paranoiac
i'm just trying to be prepared.

and again inspite of workers not having to surrender their passports we notice again that passports were taken and kept with the management. When will this employers learn to treat their workers with some respect and dignity

i don't think someone from the nursery has survived.. those injured were the visitors at the mall... that;s what I think, no official info though... because the officials keep saying, that they didn't know about a nursery for the first hor and a half, as there were no floor plans, and then when they knew, they couldn't get in, as the staircase has collapsed, and when they were able to make a hole in the roof, "it was too late, everyone was dead there", as officials say.

Dr.Sam, That is quite some planning. I will try to follow your pattern.
And it is always judicious to keep few snacks, water and a change of clothes(older will do) in the car.

u will loose nothing. and it's fun shopping and looking for the items! i prepared the bag 2 months ago when there was tension with iran and the quake in Sendai. i thought wow, if iran just bomb power plants, we will be with no water (desalinisation), electricity (light, AC, mob charger), or fuel (pomps). i bought the water dispenser and now i have 2 month supply of fresh water.
water and food in a car that can overheat well above 50s, is a bad idea tho.

Dr.Sam, Glass bottles are coming back to "fashion"..And the snacks will automatically disappear usually before the expiry date arrives...though most of the men like their car to be spic and span like how ladies want their houses to be. :-)

XENA
it's more in-situ survival waiting for evacuation (radio and batteries to know where and when), or rescue. developped countries have their emergency task crews, i'm not from one of these countries, and may wait for up to a week before anyone remembers, "oh! we're done with our expat shall we take some common mortals?"

nomad_08 said As per the newspaper reports ...

As per the newspaper reports there was a total failure of the safety systems (smoke detectors/sprinkler systems did not work as intended) so by the time everyone knew that there was a fire it was too already too late and all they could do was to try to get away from the place fast. And how much is the involvement of the security personnel with regard to initial response to an emergency situation such as this like? Was there even an emergency plan?

...Cha-Ching!

Good old joe's picture

Good old joe said Selective reporting ...

Not much news get reported here especailly the local issues and it was only after the news got out in the international media that the local news guys suddenly became hyperactive for a day or two. The main problem is Stations like Al Jazeera are more busy broadcasting other countries woes and shortcomings and has very little time to report about the place where it is based
