A controversial video lobbying against the niqab in Tunisia is creating quite the buzz on the internet.
Equality and Parity is a newly established Tunisian association that is protesting the wearing of the niqab, a long, loose garment covering the body from head to ankles that Muslim women wear as a sign of devotion to God.

Niqab is a symbolic ...Niqab is a symbolic instrument to show that men is in control.... and women? they belong to the shadows.....their only objective in life is to satisfy the desires of their man.... that's what it's all about - whether you agree or not, that's the fact of life in these countries....

The picture could also ...The picture could also represent how a woman has a choice.
I'm the left the woman chooses to wear regular skirt and shirt. On the right the woman chooses to wear clothing from head to toe.
To John: do not speak without knowledge. You know in Tunisia a lot are women are discouraged from wearing any Islamic attire. I know quite of few Tunisian women who want to wear just a simple headscarf but their families don't allow it. Just because you disagree with Niqab doesn't mean it is a tool of oppression.

Here is what I think. Maybe, ...Here is what I think. Maybe, some women in Islamic societies want the hijab banned because they believe that too many women are forced to wear it, and if it is made a choice, there still will be some people forcing some women to wear it against their will.
I am of the opinion that everybody has the right to decide for themselves.
It gets difficult in societies where some have power over others and those can't make the choice they wish to make out of fear or other reasons.

brit, You see two women with ...brit, You see two women with the freedom to dress as they please...one raised in a conservative muslim family and the other probably in a liberal one. Its difficult for a lady to shed her niqab even if she wants too...due to family pressures.
This may take a few more generations in the originally conservative families to get rid of the full face veil as the old norms and values get superseded by today's thoughts.

knight....... ...Freedom to choose - pure and simple. Perhaps the woman in the dress wants to wear a niqab but is being forced not to by her liberal minded husband. :o)

brit, Could be for some..but ...brit, Could be for some..but that would contradict the very basic instinct of a female, so it's difficult to believe such cases for most families.

knight.. ...The reason I gave this example is because I personaly know such a couple.

Then brit, the husband is not ...Then brit, the husband is not liberal. If he were, he would let his wife make the choice she wishes to make.
