Driver caught selling drugs to students

jane01's picture

The Gulf Times reports that Al-Sharq reports that :

The Criminal Court in Doha has sentenced an Asian national working as a limousine driver to 10 years in jail on charges of selling marijuana to students, according to a report in the local daily Al-Sharq.

He has also been ordered to pay a fine of QR200,000 and be deported on completion of the jail term...

...He revealed that he had 12 envelopes in his car containing the substance to be sold to students for a sum of QR6,400 each. He later on disclosed the identities of the other three persons who were his accomplices.

After cross-examination they confessed to their modus operandi. They offered the substance to those who were regularly using their limousines for being dropped and picked up at the universities and schools. They also managed to mingle with students when they threw parties and offered the substance during those occasions, said the officer.

Call me naive but didn't realise this sort of thing went down like this in Doha...

Prism - im not comparing the 2. Just stating the way punishment is served. It shud be fair, rite? Im not supporting the dealer. What he did is inexcusable. But he is a dealer and seeling it at such prices cuz the demand is there.....

In a rape case again the victim is punished and labelled an adultress. whereas the person who actually victimised her is set scott free. Again talking only in terms of punishment meted out and its fairness - which does not exist...

Surely, as in other countries, you can only prosecute "buyers" if they are caufgt in the act. Even then, as many cases in the UK, they are let off with a warning :O(

if the users are students, i am guessing that most of them are not yet on the legal age, so i guess counselling or send them to juvenile homes, (do they have it here?) oh well, both pusher and user must be punished.

So keep off the grass people! :-P

bet the customers must have plenty of pocket money to afford that stuff! The guy must be happy he chose Qatar as a country to sell his wares. Some countries are not as forgiving!

I'm assuming by the cost this was not the Bright Future Pakistani school, so you are probably looking at students with high disposable incomes, most likely Qatari. (Even western kids would say no to that price). So we can all guess if the kids will get prosecuted, er, I guess no.

Marijuana shouldn't be sold to minors but other than that we need to end the disastrous world-wide prohibition on the good herb. There was a time , not that long ago , when hashish was widely used and accepted without much fuss throughout the middle east.
