Islam is a religion of logic. ...Islam is a religion based on logic. If one can't afford to go for Umrah or Hajj, s/he doesn't need to. They are exempted from doing so as their duty by the All Knowing Almighty. Moreover charity in Islam is something that if done with your right hand, the left hand should not have an idea about it.
If the person you know is affluent enough to sponsor people for Umrah, s/he should first look for those unfortunate people who have to see their children starve to death before their eyes. There are many who have to go to sleep on an empty stomach. They are the 'needy'.
