Girl wearing hijab denied entry to class
DOHA: A private school here denied entry to a girl student to the classroom on the first day of the new academic year for wearing the headscarf (hijab), a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.
The Supreme Education Council (SEC) immediately intervened and forced the school to revoke its decision. The school has also been asked to make an official apology to the father of the student, the daily said. The father was surprised by the school’s move because his daughter had been attending the same school over the past three years wearing hijab, said the daily.
After the incident, he spoke to the school administration but failed to convince them. He said the school couldn’t give him any satisfactory explanation for the sudden change in the rules.
SEC came to know about the incident after a friend of the father posted a complaint through Twitter. The authorities took the issue seriously and forced the school to allow the student to attend the classes in the following days, said the daily. The Peninsula
