Remote Connection with Teamviewer

King Edshel's picture

Imagine that you got a problem with one of your clients and it’s simple as installing software, installing some sort of a driver or even checking some settings of specific software. Creating new users on the domain controller to allow your users accessing the network and it’s resources.

You have to leave your office and travel for 80 Kilometers [Did I mention that your client is in Dukhan?], run through the traffic hassle and the long trip that will consume almost half of your day.

Do you really have to travel that far? Guess you don’t have to do it anymore with this simple program ‘Team Viewer’. It’s a free software, installation process are simple and I will guide you here step by step.

First of all to download the software you have to go to the official site, this is the URL:
http://www.teamviewe...

There is a link that says: ‘Download Now It’s free!’, after you download it run the setup.

Choose Install and then click ‘Next’, Select ‘Personal’ and then click ‘Next’.

Check both checkboxes there and then click ‘Next’.

Select ‘Start automatically with Windows’ and type any password that you like.

Click ‘Finish’ and you are done with the installation.

Teamviewer would start and from the interface you can see that it’s divided into two panels ‘Wait for session’ and ‘Create session’.

Before I go with the details, you have to put in mind that teamviewer should be installed on both machines. The machine that you are trying to access remotely and for sure your machine.

Let’s have here this scenario to make it easy for all of us; you are sitting at your office and your client calls having trouble. Ask him/her to run teamviewer [provided that it’s already installed.] He/She would see in front of him/her the interface, now you should ask him/her about the ID that he/she got [normally it’s static for each machine and won’t change] which appears under the ‘Wait for session’.

When you get it, type it under ‘Create session’ on your machine and then click ‘Connect to partner’. When you do, a message would appear asking for a password.

You will provide the password that you choose during the installation and viola, you can see your client's desktop the same way you can see yours.

You can use it also at home, installing it on your desktop. That would help you if you need to get something from your machine as the software got also ‘File Transfer’ feature. Or you can check how is it going with your downloads at home from the office :)

I hope that tutorial was clear, if you will need any help you can always ask.

Best Regards,
KE

This is a very good choice for remote support! We just ordered license for business edition since we are using windows server and some of our clients too. The free open source doesn't work with server OS.
We conducted testing also and I should say it's faster that I thought. Anyway we haven't implement it yet, if there will be some downfall, i'll post it here. ^_^

I've installed it many times in 5 different locations, all are running windows 2003 server and it works just fine.

I don't know if there are any additional features in the licensed version, but remote connection and file transfer were working just fine.

alerady have it and using it for a year now. been connecting to our dubai office and qatar.

similar to Norton PC Anywhere and LogMeIn (www.logmein.com). it will all depend on your internet connection. if its fast, good. if its slow, there is delay. in team viewer, if your desktop turns to white, theyre already connected to you.

connecting that to Apple TV or just the MAC itself?
I don't think that would have anything to do with the distance or something that disturbs the infrared remote ...

There is a security tab, under your system preferences that is mentioning something regarding the remote control infrared receiver. Make sure that it's not checked, otherwise it would be disabled and won't work.

Hi KE, thanks for the info and clarification.
Actually we are after for the ghost mode, since we don't need someone to have an approval on the remote site.
Most of our clients don't have IT department so there is no one that we can ask assistance from the other side.

Since you are more experience than us using this tool, please expect me to have more questions to you in the future. Thanks!! ^_^

most welcome ... the thing is when you do the installation, check the run when windows starts. That way you will put a password and it would never change.

You can always access it whenever you want without any problems just like waiting for someone to give you the password as it's random.

theres a lot of ways to connect using remote assistance. in youre case, the remote machine is in Dukhan you can ask the user over at Dukhan to send you an invitation file through email. Once you got that file just double click it and follow the instructions. The user at dukhan must accept the incoming connection.

youre comment above is one way of connecting when both machine is in the same network. even if the other machine is on first floor and youre machine is on the 15th floor as long as they are in the same network or LAN. Usually when you need to know the IP address of the remote machine, you are the one trying to offer a help through remote assistance. likewise if the remote machine is in Dukhan, you gonna have to ask someone from Dukhan to create an invitation file and send it to you.

step by step from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft...

step by step from someone: http://askbobrankin....

the second link shows you the map of both machine on different location.
