When we arrived in Doha we used to go to this place very regular. About 6 mths ago, we took my brother in law to this place.

We ordered steak and kidney pie, the pie was dry and the gravy came out cold. When we asked to the waitress to warm the gravy up and she seems so surprise with the request.

I had a full monty english breakfast, the 'bacon' was over fried, the egg was over cooked and the yolk came out hard.

Havent been back every since ...

In a word 'terrible'......We searched high and low for the authentic 'British Cafe'....my husband eventually found it, ordered the 'English breakfast' everything from a tin and all that wasn't tinned was burnt. My husband spotted the picture of the Tyne Bridge when he asked the waitress about it....she didn't know where in the world it was! Obviously no Brits to be seen either in the kitchen or out on the shop floor......very very disappointing.......

This is a nice place to get a quick bite for lunch.

Altough it markets itslef as British Owned/Managed you will not find any british on any given day.

The sandwiches are decent and good value for your money. They have different options for the different day of the week.

They also deliver (Minimum order of 3 sandwiches)

I was really looking forward to the authentic Fish and Chips. Boy was I wrong. Food was not very good, service was bad and the price was way too much for what we had. If this an authentic British place then you need new places that are not authentic to go to. I should have known something was wrong when no one was there during the lunch hour.

Great breakfast and fish and chips are top notch also, especially now their only serious competition in Garvey's has been shut down. Nice staff and a relaxing atmosphere expecially for Doha. Free Daily Mails on offer with a nice cuppa. Love it.

The "Tikka Your Fancy" sandwich is really good. Plus where else in Doha can you get a baked potatoes with baked beans...

And it's nice and quiet usually. Pity the jukebox isn't working!

Variable. On some days great on others awful coupled with the attitude from the Filipino's waitresses.

Best on a Friday afternoon with a hangover and then the food is always fantastic!

Great combination freshly made food and friendly staff who are happy to please. Mum's been asking for the turkey and dumpling stew recipe ever since last Christmas! A have to try! order it in advance if it's not available. The best fish & chips too. It's a bit difficult to get there now but definately worth the trip. they also do deliveries.

Very poor. Even when I arrived here 4 years ago, it was one of those hit and miss places, it was sometimes below average or crap!

The staff have gone from rude, aggresive, to quite friendly to being rude and aggresive.

I don't like the place at all. You are lulled into a false sense of security thinking it serves good quality "English' food but it's crap.

Nice mags though!

I like the food, it is better than many UK cafes. Also, sorry people but you obviously haven't been back to the UK for a long time, apart from in Eastenders, you will not find many British people working in cafes there either! Recently I left my sunglasses there, they cost almost 2,000QR and to be honest I had no hopes of seeing them again. When I finally realised that was the last place I had seen them I called and the lady had put them aside for me hoping I would be in touch.

Me and my 3 girls have been eating here for years. Left the country a couple of years ago and been back a few times since. Always as good as ever and the only problem with the pies is how to get them back to Manchester in my suitcase. The fact that they delivery to your house makes those friday morning hangovers that much easier to bear. Staff have always been friendly and welcoming. Great food, great place

This is a decent little cafe, and the food is spot on. I have been several times, and it has been excellent every time.
The English Breakfast is as close as you can get to one from a cafe back home, and the Sunday Roasts come with a propoer Yorkshire Pudding!
the service is fine, even when the cafe is full, and the waitresses are always willing to help.

i dint like it too much.Infact i will put it down as "horrible". Me and a buddy of mine went there out of curiosity. And surely enough curiosity killed the cat !!

We were there for dinner. The waitress were not very helpful. Infact we were the ONLY people there and still no attention from them!! i cud imagine how it wud have been if it was filled! The food was cold. I ordered "tikka ure fancy" ( cos it sounded cool ) and it was'nt nice!! Supposedly someone else in this post said it was great. The dishes were costly for the inadequate service that they provided.

The interior was pretty cool though. The walls are decorated with a lotta cool stuff and newspaper and all. Managed to take a lot of photos in the 40 minutes they took to bring the food!! Again, we were the ONLY ones that day in. All the others seemed to be using "take away".

This was about a year ago. Never been there since. Maybe things have changed. If yes, good for them!!

I tend to go there for a Friday fry up after a long walk. Food is decent enough. Tea is good and strong. and the place is generally busy. As per other posts here, you won't see much of the Brit owners, but then again you don't see many Chinese in a Chinese restaurant!

The place is nice from the inside. Prices are much more than the UK prices (over-priced). Very expensive served by one particular Philipino that seemed to be always in an odd mood every time I go there. I think perhaps under-paid and over worked.
I only go for either the sandwichs or the full monty Breakfast but man does it give me a stomach ache afterwords, but what can do ? The only pseudo
-British cafe in Doha.
SUGGESTIONS:-

1. BRING PRICE DOWN TO A REASONABLE LEVEL AND NOT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE CURRENT STERLING RATE.!!!!
2. PAY STAFF A BIT MORE TO PUT CHEER ON THEIR FACES.
3. INSTALL A TV WITH TOP BOX FOR NEWS (SKY)
4. INSTALL OR GAS UP THE ACs IT IS WARM IN THERE.

JG Sandwich Cellar is an excellent place to have fish and chips Brit style. The portion is always more than enough for one pax and the homemade chips are always fresh. Never experience bad food there for the number of times we've dined there but had to avoid it lately due to the construction work going on at Ras Abu Aboud. I'll check it again one of this days and let you know.

I personally think the fish and chips is below average. I suspect they used Sheri fish fillet which is too hard as "fish and chips" and the pie could be better.

I really enjoy coming to this place. I don't get there as often as I would like to but when I do, the waitress always remembers me and is very friendly. I had a friend come out from Dubai on a business trip and took him there for breakfast and he loved it! We drove around Doha and at lunch time we ended up in City Centre. I asked where he wanted lunch and he insisted on going back to Sandwich Cellar and he had the best fish and chips, he said, ever!

1. The lasagna was reheated so badly the corners were burnt the top had a thick dry and hard layer the side had mashed potato with no flavor just mashed potato
2. The chicken had the same side but the mashed potato was three times the size of the chicken.
3. Turkey ham sandwich was so dry needed water with each bite

An interesting place. During my bachelor days here, I used to "treat" myself to a full english on a Friday morning - been back a couple of times since marriage and was there last friday which is why I'm commenting now. This place hasnt changed in the 3 years I have been here and I guess its not going to. The English influence has long since evaporated with Philipina staff and Nepali chefs - thats not a criticism - they do a good job - but it is what it is and I agree with previous commentators - the prices are WAY to high for what you get. It isnt helped by its location which is now very unfriendly since the opening of the new road. For a comparison, punters could try Country Kitchen just up the road which is vastly superior in terms of menu and variety of choice, size of helping and general ambience. Its Yank in nature and it shows - thats a positive thing by the way - but the staff are not as friendly in my experience as they are in the "Brit" cafe down the road!! So there you are - friendlier at the Cafe but better choice, better prices and more convenient at the Kitchen!!

Hello everyone! Just to say that JG Sandwich Cellar is situated near my house in Ras Abu Aboud and whenever I go out to purchase items in the nearby Supermarket, I find that the restaurant is EMPTY!! So I don't think it is a good one.... as I don't see anyone go to that restaurant! :D
